The Best Acne Home Treatment

Yes you read it right! Acne can be treated at home with a facial and a few very simple steps and precautions. This can save you a lot when it comes to getting a spot treatment done. The most important step is to lessen the use of chemical treatments on your skin to the natural ways and getting that flawless look with a variety of at home natural treatments. Along with taking good care of your skin, eating healthy is of prime importance too. Your diet should have a lot of fruits and vegetables especially those leafy kinds which are rich in minerals, vitamins and anti-oxidants that help you restore the vigor and vitality to gain that youthful look.

Your skin may not be blemish free and may have facial scars which come out to the surface of the skin. These are nothing but the toxins or the waste matter within the human body. This can be very difficult to get rid of and while they are there can destroy your appeal and confidence. Drink at least 10 to 11 glasses of water daily, this will help you in flushing out the toxins and getting your internal cleansing, which is vitally important.

When we talk of skin remedies, banana mash comes to mind. Banana has enzymes that can be very good for the skin. All you have to do is take a cup of banana mash and add fuller's earth to form a coarse mixture. Mix with milk and honey if your skin is dry or simply mix with black tea water and blend them into a paste. Apply it all over the face especially on the affected areas and leave it on for 15 minutes. When you feel that the paste has hardened on your skin, run your hands under cold tap water and gently wash away the hardened paste. The best way to conclude with this treatment is to use a cotton ball dabbed with rose water which has already been kept ready in the refrigerator. This helps in closing the open pores and soothing the affected areas. Wow! Is what you will say to yourself after every banana mash face pack treatment? The compliments from others will follow!

This home treatment should be done thrice a week, twice daily preferably in the morning once you wake up and at night just before you go to sleep. It not only hydrates and acts as a moisturizer but also helps in the peeling of the dead cells which are apparently the main culprits when it comes to hidden dirt accumulation and is the sworn enemy of good and healthy skin.

Checklist of Bathroom Essentials For a College Student

It is your first year and you are looking forward to the independence but remember it won't be easy since all this while you had been relying on your mum for those little things that matter so much in our daily life. How do you ensure that you are not stuck in embarrassing situations just because you have run out of a hygiene essential like toilet rolls!

Everything in life runs smoothly if there is a foolproof plan backing it; so here is a checklist before you start out:

  • Toilet paper tends to the vanishing act when you need it the most and especially if you are sharing your room with a classmate you are bound to get stuck in embarrassing situations. Do not rely on your roommate to refurnish the stock because the chances are that he is relying on you too! Keep enough backup always.
  • Tissue paper for those colds and also for emotional occasions that college life is famous for.
  • Just like toilet paper, soap also put you in the same situation so always go shopping while you have a couple in hand. Remember to pack a soap dish or the commonly available holder that has a place for soap, toothbrush, toothpaste which will ensure that your essentials are clean and not mixed up with your roommate's.
  • All toiletries like creams, lotions, shampoos, cream scrubber etc. obviously do not need an explanation but a reminder is needed.
  • Equipment like electric razors (if you need it), blow dryers etc.
  • Last but not least do not forget a first aid kit which should have antiseptics, gauze, scissors, band aids and ointments. Some over the counter medication can also be included for sudden fevers or colds.
  • Towels of different sizes.
  • Air fresheners so that you and your roommate both have no complaints.

Exfoliation For Healthy Skin

Beautiful skin does not need any make up; however to keep it beautiful you may need to use some products. The topmost on the list are exfoliating agents or exfoliators.

Our skin has its own natural way of shedding dry skin cell to allow new ones to take their place but there are certain types of skin that need external help for the process. Some like the oily type do not easily get rid of dead cells because of their oily nature. Dry skin has higher dead cell accumulation and is the most resistant to natural exfoliation.

Any area of the skin on the body can be exfoliated but remember that skin is not the same in all areas so use an area specific exfoliate. For example the face will need gentle removal of dead cells however the foot may need a much stronger exfoliation.

How does Exfoliation promote Healthy Skin?

  • It removes the uppermost dead layer of cells which can give a dull dark complexion. This will reveal the new healthy tissue beneath it. The average human being generates a new layer of skin every month on an average.
  • The process also helps to prevent acne whose main cause is clogged pores due to excess sebum. Existing acne areas should not be scrubbed as it might aggravate the problem; however if you do not have acne scrub regularly to keep pores clean.
  • It prevents lines from appearing by keeping skin fresh and new.
  • It increases the capacity of the skin to absorb moisture.

How to exfoliate?

  • Wet the area.
  • Pour a little exfoliating liquid or cream on to a scrubbing sponge or loofah.
  • Scrub with circular motions
  • Rinse

Do remember to moisturize well after scrubbing else skin will become dry; also do not scrub daily, once or twice a week is sufficient for healthy skin.

Types of Exfoliators

The skin is our largest organ and also our protection against a lot of diseases apart from the vital role it has in our appearance. Hence it needs a much more regular care than any other organ. Exfoliation is very important in keeping our skin healthy and disease free.

Some products can be used anywhere on the body whereas there are certain products meant for problematic areas like feet and some are for gentle areas like the face and neck.

There are mainly two types of exfoliators - mechanical and chemical.

Mechanical exfoliators have tiny microscopic clenches which help to remove dead cells by scrubbing with them either by applying directly on to the skin or by using a loofah along with it. Common ones contain small pieces of apricot pits or walnut shells and are mainly used for feet to keep it soft and supple. Others for use except on face and neck are commonly referred to as body scrubs commonly have tiny particles almond shells or cosmetic shells. Those who have time can also make some wonderful scrubs at home using dried orange peel and a lot of other ideas which are freely available on the net. They are available over the counter in all shops selling beauty products in the form of creams and gels.

Chemical exfoliators work in the same way as the mechanical ones except for the fact they use mild acids in place of the grit or granules in the latter type. The common acids used are alpha hydroxyl, beta-hydroxyl and salicylic which are all skin friendly.

Choose your product according to your skin type; for example, for normal to oily skin lactic acid or alpha hydroxyl acid based products is recommended. Some allergic or sensitive skins may however experience itchiness and rashes so always test on a small area first before using any exfoliating product. However there are some products specifically for sensitive skin with contents like aloe-Vera, green tea and papaya etc but it is always advisable to do a small test.

Guideline on How to Look Like a Movie Star

Every child, teenager and adult dreams of being beautiful; to be able to apply some make up and feel like a Hollywood star. What is the secret behind actresses and models that make them seem so beautiful? The answer is stylists!

Most models and actresses have a stylist that makes sure their hair is perfect, outfit stylish and make up perfect, making them look like they have stepped out of the covers of a magazine. Just how is an ordinary person supposed to perfect their look in order to look as perfect as a movie star?

The truth behind the matter is to make use of a few certain tools. Follow magazines to get the latest fashion styles, adapt them to suite your body shape and personality. The next step is to see your trusted hairstylist that will not only give you a beautiful hair style but let you know how to maintain the style. This may be with the use of a blow dryer, hair straightener or sprays. The third and final stage is Make Up.

Everyone can apply makeup but you need the tools to apply your make up correctly and efficiently. Good makeup quality make up is a necessity you also need the tools to apply your makeup. An illuminated make up mirror is a tool on the market which will greatly help you with the application of your make up.

An illuminated make up mirror is just what it sounds like. It is a mirror which is illuminated by lights which highlight your face. This allows for accurate, perfect make up application.

Using these tools you are able to step out your door feeling like and looking like the princess you deserve to be. Just take the time to learn and study the right tools to make yourself happy with your appearance.

bobbi brown beach club collection

I'm always inspired by how happy and healthy people look on the beach. Nothing says summer to me like pretty, glowing skin and shimmering lids.
                                                                                                                              -Bobbi Brown

I couldn't agree more.

Although trips to the beach are few and far between now, I used to travel to the shore several times a month when I lived in NJ.

I loved the beach.

Now Bobbi Brown is bringing the beach to me and to you.

Bobbi's Beach Club Collection features everything you need to get gleaming skin and iridescent lids.

Beach Shimmer Brick ($38) Hand-made in Italy, BB's new compact features five bars of warm, pearlized shimmer to create a beautiful seaside glow. Run the Face Blender Brush across all five shades and lightly dust over cheeks and forehead, or wear just one shade on your eyes for subtle glimmer.

Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadows ($22) Her award-winning formula now available in glistening pastels from ocean blue to oyster pink. For a sheer effect, blend on lids with your fingers. For a more dramatic look, add another layer or wear on top of your favorite shadow for soft shimmer. Stays color-true and crease-free all day. New shades include: Moonstone, Opal, Surf and Pink Oyster.

Shore Long-Wear Cream Shadow ($22) A soft matte beige perfect for a look that’s just one notch up from natural, Shore Long-Wear Cream Shadow will stay color-true and crease-free all day.

Clear Treatment Lip Shine SPF 15 ($22) A lightweight, soft shine lipstick that doubles as a rejuvenating treatment, Treatment Lip Shine SPF 15 instantly comforts dry, chapped lips and provides long-term moisturization with natural Cocoa and Shea Butters, Jojoba, Apricot Kernel and Avocado Oils. Peptides, along with Vitamin C and Paracress, stimulate collagen production to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while SPF 15 helps prevent sun damage.

I had the opportunity to try two of the Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadows and the Shore Long-Wear Cream Shadow and I love love love how they look.

Here's a swatch...

I can see myself, truly, in all three colors this summer.

Believe it or not, my absolute fave is Surf.  It looks gorgeous on its own and really just makes my brown eyes pop.

At 18 he was accepted into the womenswear degree program at London’s Central Saint Martins College.

40th Anniversary in Fashion: Roberto Cavalli's Fashion Circus

On the 40th anniversary of his label, Roberto Cavalli reveals to Harper’s Bazaar why leopard is lovely, imitation is unflattering, and the party should never end.

Cavalli, pictured above with his wife, Eva, their son, Daniele, their flamboyant friends, as well as a lion cub, at their home in Florence, Italy, shares what he loves about women, why he thinks he's a "typical man" and more in June's issue of Harper Bazaar featuring Katherine Heigl on the cover.

Harper's Bazaar Article, Laura Brown (author)

The genius of Roberto Cavalli is that he lives exactly as he should. He is not a subtle man, and he doesn't make subtle clothes. Cavalli lives a leopard-print life.

Take, for example, his casa on a hill overlooking Florence, Italy. A 14th-century watchtower, it has four birdcages housing colorful macaws and a hysterical cockatoo, dozens of crystal balls, walls of classical portraits, a Julian Schnabel plate painting of his wife, Eva, a cellar full of Cavalli wine and Cavalli vodka, a tanning machine, and a bedazzled motorbike. Down the hill is Cavalli's ultramodern photo studio, a techtastic palace with light-up floors.

On fall’s low-key tailoring: “Minimalism is so boring.”

On other designers taking inspiration from his trademark ideas: “In the beginning, when people copied me I was happy.”
But now, “I can understand when H&M or Zara copies me, but I hate it when big designers copy me. You have a big name, you should never copy me.”

On the provenance of his trademark leopard print: “God created such a fantastic world. Leopard is an animal design, and my designs come from nature.”

On his love for fashion, and for women: “Of course I think about a beautiful woman to dress, because that’s my way,” he says with a shrug.
Is there a difference? “Yes,” he says. “I don’t masturbate thinking about fashion.”

On what he loves about women: “Their eyes. A woman can drive me crazy with her eyes. And when they don’t pay attention to me, they drive me crazy too.” “I am a completely typical man.”

Global Green Reacts to BP Gulf Oil Spill

Well, as many of you know I live in New Orleans. So to say the BP oil fiasco hits close to home is more than just a play on words, it actually HITS home.  As such, please allow me to veer away from the normal subject matter in order to share a piece on Global Green's outreach to this situation. I'm very thankful for their help and the attention they've shown us, and this is my small way of getting the word out!

Thank you, Matt Petersen and the whole Global Green Family!
                                    __________________________________________________

What follows is a message from Matt Petersen of Global Green:

Like most Americans, I continue to be depressed and angered by BP's wholly inadequate response to the tragic BP oil spill, despoiling the Gulf Coast and wetlands of Louisiana.

Hopefully, the 'top kill' works to stop the continued leak. But if that succeeds, its only the beginning of what will take years, if not decades, to recover from the worst oil spill in history. The worst environmental disaster in our nation's history.

It is all hands on deck time -- for stopping the spill, cleaning it up, holding BP accountable (and not allowing it to hide behind semantics of "legitimate claims" to avoid making good on their commitment to cover the costs of the spill), and reducing our oil dependency while creating a cleaner, greener future.

As you may know, Global Green and the Commercial Fishermen of America recently organized a community event to send a “human text message” to BP, President Obama, and Congress about their concern and anger about the BP Oil Spill. This was just days before oil hit their community's beaches and nearby wetlands. Watch video from the event (also available below).

They said "NEVER AGAIN." We must join with them in sending this message to BP and the oil industry, as well as to Congress and the federal government.

Margaret Curole, a local resident and board member of Commercial Fisherman of America, shared with me the sentiment in Grand Isle yesterday:
“Everyone's tempers are flaring over the...inability to recognize the importance of urgent action, but after Katrina I have no idea why we should expect different. The beach where we took the picture is closed and I couldn't get close.”
Global Green is continuing to document the impacts of the spill on the Gulf Community, helping to rally emergency food relief efforts for the impacted communities of the Gulf, calling for more regulation of the oil industry and increasing investment in renewable energy and clean technologies. We also must demand that BP pay every penny owed as the ecosystems and communities recover.

If you’d like to help with our efforts, please donate here. You can also read more about the impacts on the Gulf Coast community on our blog.

With President Obama visiting New Orleans today (5/28/20), we’ve prepared a statement which I wanted to share with you.
In part: --> "We call on President Obama to recognize the level of desperation and suffering the Louisiana economy, communities, wetlands and marine life – which provide much of our nation’s energy and food, as well as critical ecosystems and species that make life as we know it possible -- are experiencing, and take action commensurate to the problem.
We hope he – and Congress – hears the voices which are saying 'never again'. "

Let’s all join the Gulf Coast communities in saying, NEVER AGAIN.
Sincerely,
Matt Petersen Signature_small

Just head on over to stilacosmetics.com to take advantage!!

estee lauder's limited edition collection...pure color night

It doesn't get any more limited edition than this, Estée Lauder's Pure Color Night is a small collection created by Tom Pecheux, Creative Makeup Director for the cosmetics company.

Just how exclusive is this?

Well, right now, it's available exclusively in Paris at Bon Marché Rive Gauche, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann and Printemps Haussmann. Limited quantities are also available in New York at Bergdorf Goodman (June 2010) and in London at Selfridges Oxford Street.

So...yeah...it's THAT limited.

In the words of the man himself...

I wanted to create the iconic French makeup look; the black smokey eye, dewy skin and kissable lip.  As a makeup artist, I am known for making women look beautiful, sensual and sexy.  When given the challenge to create a collection exclusively for Paris, I thought it would be perfect to create a nighttime look, because this is when every French woman wants to look her most beautiful. I wanted to translate the seductiveness and femininity of French women into makeup.

-Tom Pecheux, Creative Makeup Director, Estée Lauder

You really can't disagree with that.

I adore how there's only three products to choose from too...

Pure Color Ombre Effect EyeShadow in Naughty Black ($20) creates a smokey eye with smoldering impact.  Featuring a textured trio of matte, shimmer and sparkle, these dramatic black/ brown shades can be used alone or together.

Pure Color Luminous Powder ($40) is an incredibly refined and lightweight powder with a luxurious creamy texture. The Highlight shade adds a sensual glow to skin making it look young, healthy and dewy.

Pure Color Lip Gelée in Kiss Me ($20) saturates lips with a nude rose tint, giving the mouth a just-bitten wet look. Water-like high shine polymers amplify the glass like finish, ensuring a coveted seductive pout.

Love.  This.

Toss in a Free Refill on Bond No. 9

Who says luxury has to cost a lot? How about getting a little luxury for free when you show your loyalty to one of the nation's top perfume houses? Sound too good to be true? Well, what if I tell you the luxury is a complimentary refill of your favorite Bond No. 9? Mmmmmm ...

Alright, enough with the questions, the teasers, the build-up, and onto the news!
Bond No. 9 truly does appreciate their customers' loyalty.  They value it so much they're giving away a free refill of gorgeous perfume to those who purchase any two Bond No. 9 items (except pocket sprays & soaps) now through Saturday, June 5th.

By any measure, this is a fantastic value, and both you and Bond No. 9 will be contributing to an eco-smart planet through the refill. Yay!  A win-win ... I love when that happens.

So, the hard part will be deciding upon which two items to buy.  Here, a sampling of some "gorgeousness" that just may strike your fancy:

  •  High Line Eau de Parfum - The scent of bergamot, purple love grass, Indian rhubarb, red leaf rose, tulip, grape hyacinth, wildflowers, green grasses and bur oak … and urban renewal (was new to counters in March). 50 ml $145, 100 ml $220
  • The Scent of Peace Candle - Sparkling grapefruit, black currant, lily of the valley, mellowed with base notes of cedarwood and musk. $95
  • Chinatown Body Silk - The unspeakably lush cream is a sumptuous body smoother that simultaneously soothes the skin; rich in perfume with notes of peach blossoms, gardenia, tuberose, patchouli, cardamom. 200 ml $115

Also, be sure to be on the lookout for Bond No. 9's newest fragrance launch Andy Warhol Montauk in June 2010, just in time for Father's Day.  An androgynous male-female perfume, fresh and tangy initial flavors of blueberry and wild bergamot give way, first to sultry, sexy hyacinth, lily of the valley, and honeysuckle, and then to rich, clean forest-by-the-sea aromas—silver maple, red oak, driftwood, and amber.

Visit Bond No. 9 online for more information and to shop their fabulous library of fragrances.

beauty buys under $10...garnier triple nutrition nutrient spray

You know you're going to need a good leave-in conditioner, with the daily damage your hair will be facing this summer.

So easy to use...just spray it on after just shampooing for regular conditioning, or spray it on after your regular conditioner for a real dose of extra moisture.

Use it on your wet hair, then pull it back in a pony, a braid, or just leave your hair to dry naturally.  Your hair will thank you for not using heat to style it.

Got it?

Good.

One to try, Garnier Triple Nutrition Nutrient Spray ($5.99).

It's Garnier’s first two-in-one dual-action treatment spray, that will make drier hair a lot happier.

After shampooing (with Garnier's new shampoo...review to come) I dabbed a little of the wet away from my hair, shook the bottle to activate the stuff, and sprayed it on.

It made my hair feel soft immediately...loved that.

Later in the day, when I had NO time to shower before taking my kids to a play-date at the park, I sprayed this on my kinda meh hair and totally appreciated how it revived my do.

The bonus is that you don't have to set foot in a salon to purchase.

Just check out your local Target, CVS, or online at drugstore.com.
