The Best Acne Home Treatment
Your skin may not be blemish free and may have facial scars which come out to the surface of the skin. These are nothing but the toxins or the waste matter within the human body. This can be very difficult to get rid of and while they are there can destroy your appeal and confidence. Drink at least 10 to 11 glasses of water daily, this will help you in flushing out the toxins and getting your internal cleansing, which is vitally important.
When we talk of skin remedies, banana mash comes to mind. Banana has enzymes that can be very good for the skin. All you have to do is take a cup of banana mash and add fuller's earth to form a coarse mixture. Mix with milk and honey if your skin is dry or simply mix with black tea water and blend them into a paste. Apply it all over the face especially on the affected areas and leave it on for 15 minutes. When you feel that the paste has hardened on your skin, run your hands under cold tap water and gently wash away the hardened paste. The best way to conclude with this treatment is to use a cotton ball dabbed with rose water which has already been kept ready in the refrigerator. This helps in closing the open pores and soothing the affected areas. Wow! Is what you will say to yourself after every banana mash face pack treatment? The compliments from others will follow!
This home treatment should be done thrice a week, twice daily preferably in the morning once you wake up and at night just before you go to sleep. It not only hydrates and acts as a moisturizer but also helps in the peeling of the dead cells which are apparently the main culprits when it comes to hidden dirt accumulation and is the sworn enemy of good and healthy skin.
Checklist of Bathroom Essentials For a College Student
Everything in life runs smoothly if there is a foolproof plan backing it; so here is a checklist before you start out:
- Toilet paper tends to the vanishing act when you need it the most and especially if you are sharing your room with a classmate you are bound to get stuck in embarrassing situations. Do not rely on your roommate to refurnish the stock because the chances are that he is relying on you too! Keep enough backup always.
- Tissue paper for those colds and also for emotional occasions that college life is famous for.
- Just like toilet paper, soap also put you in the same situation so always go shopping while you have a couple in hand. Remember to pack a soap dish or the commonly available holder that has a place for soap, toothbrush, toothpaste which will ensure that your essentials are clean and not mixed up with your roommate's.
- All toiletries like creams, lotions, shampoos, cream scrubber etc. obviously do not need an explanation but a reminder is needed.
- Equipment like electric razors (if you need it), blow dryers etc.
- Last but not least do not forget a first aid kit which should have antiseptics, gauze, scissors, band aids and ointments. Some over the counter medication can also be included for sudden fevers or colds.
- Towels of different sizes.
- Air fresheners so that you and your roommate both have no complaints.
Exfoliation For Healthy Skin
Our skin has its own natural way of shedding dry skin cell to allow new ones to take their place but there are certain types of skin that need external help for the process. Some like the oily type do not easily get rid of dead cells because of their oily nature. Dry skin has higher dead cell accumulation and is the most resistant to natural exfoliation.
Any area of the skin on the body can be exfoliated but remember that skin is not the same in all areas so use an area specific exfoliate. For example the face will need gentle removal of dead cells however the foot may need a much stronger exfoliation.
How does Exfoliation promote Healthy Skin?
- It removes the uppermost dead layer of cells which can give a dull dark complexion. This will reveal the new healthy tissue beneath it. The average human being generates a new layer of skin every month on an average.
- The process also helps to prevent acne whose main cause is clogged pores due to excess sebum. Existing acne areas should not be scrubbed as it might aggravate the problem; however if you do not have acne scrub regularly to keep pores clean.
- It prevents lines from appearing by keeping skin fresh and new.
- It increases the capacity of the skin to absorb moisture.
How to exfoliate?
- Wet the area.
- Pour a little exfoliating liquid or cream on to a scrubbing sponge or loofah.
- Scrub with circular motions
- Rinse
Do remember to moisturize well after scrubbing else skin will become dry; also do not scrub daily, once or twice a week is sufficient for healthy skin.
Types of Exfoliators
Some products can be used anywhere on the body whereas there are certain products meant for problematic areas like feet and some are for gentle areas like the face and neck.
There are mainly two types of exfoliators - mechanical and chemical.
Mechanical exfoliators have tiny microscopic clenches which help to remove dead cells by scrubbing with them either by applying directly on to the skin or by using a loofah along with it. Common ones contain small pieces of apricot pits or walnut shells and are mainly used for feet to keep it soft and supple. Others for use except on face and neck are commonly referred to as body scrubs commonly have tiny particles almond shells or cosmetic shells. Those who have time can also make some wonderful scrubs at home using dried orange peel and a lot of other ideas which are freely available on the net. They are available over the counter in all shops selling beauty products in the form of creams and gels.
Chemical exfoliators work in the same way as the mechanical ones except for the fact they use mild acids in place of the grit or granules in the latter type. The common acids used are alpha hydroxyl, beta-hydroxyl and salicylic which are all skin friendly.
Choose your product according to your skin type; for example, for normal to oily skin lactic acid or alpha hydroxyl acid based products is recommended. Some allergic or sensitive skins may however experience itchiness and rashes so always test on a small area first before using any exfoliating product. However there are some products specifically for sensitive skin with contents like aloe-Vera, green tea and papaya etc but it is always advisable to do a small test.
